Dan Wood
Area of expertise: Adolescent & reconstructive urology
Dan Wood is a Consultant Urologist in Adolescent and Reconstructive Surgery at the University College Hospitals, London. After gaining a sound general urological experience he developed an interest in reconstructive urology. He has worked in the fields of female and pelvic reconstruction, urethroplasty and artificial urinary sphincters, paediatric urology and surgery for congenital malformations, as well as adolescent urology. He currently performs a wide range of procedures in urological reconstruction and adolescent urology.
Dan was awarded a PhD thesis for his work on ‘The Characterisation of Human Detrusor Smooth Muscle Cell Cultures’. He continues to research detrusor physiology. In 2001 he was awarded a travel fellowship allowing him to visit Harvard University and gain an insight into tissue culture for tissue engineering.
Dan is a keen teacher and has lectured for various institutions and groups. He is currently a trainer on the North Thames Specialist Training Committee and was the founder member of THRUST.
